Is olive oil good if I want to straighten my natural African American hair?

lipstickandlouboutins asked:

I want to straighten my African American hair to get that sleek, pressed look. I will be using a Cortex flat iron. I heard that olive oil is great for washing your hair to make it soft and shiny. Is it true? Do I apply olive oil before shampooing? How long do I leave it in? Do I condition after, or is the olive oil powerful enough?
Please do not give me links, and I want serious answers. Thanks.

Yes everthing about olive oil is true. The stores sell olive oil products that will help you get that sleek, pressed look. The product is called ORGANIC Root Stimulator.

    All About Olives Oils

Olive oil helps your hair remain soft and overall it’s a great moisturizer for your scalp. Make sure you get extra virgin olive oil though, the darker green it is, the more organic. I apply it all over my scalp and hair before I co-wash and that should be enough, you can always add a little more if you want but don’t overdo it (I’ve went down that road before and my head was super oily, so a little olive oil goes a long way).

I know you said not to post any links, but I found this video and this is the technique I’m going to try on my natural hair to straighten it after it grows out, I’m thinking the Silicon oil does the trick, but I’m not too sure:

    Good luck!

I used extra virgin olive on my daughter’s hair while wet after washing and before blow drying and flat ironing it. The results were great. So many products are marketed as having olive oil in them and I have probably used most of them. But the most original form of olive oil seems to work the best !
